D&A Reflections
Me as a photographer I have enjoyed photography as my hobby for many years. Photography has opened my eyes and expanded my horizon of how I look at things. I became so much more appreciative about everything around me. Even my wife started to see a positive somewhat romantic change in me as I constantly say “look how beautiful the sky is, did you notice the color of the ocean today or what a beautiful tree”. The world around me will never look the same. One of my favorite mediums has always been water. I am fascinated by the ever changing colors and the sheer power one day and total tranquility the next. Photography gave me the opportunity to freeze movement of water no one would ever see with his bare eyes as it happens so fast. My favorite medium became even more fascinating. The real passion that took my photography to the next level started in mid 2010. My new discovery of what I call “Surreal Reflection Photography (SRP)” made me feel like a little boy in a Candy store. SRP opened a new chapter in my photography. Every flower, tree, building, animal or person that has been photographed to death is now reopen for discovery. With a single shot you can make a building sink into the ocean, reflect an entire landscape into a tree or merge two subjects in visual range into something amazing and surreal. Someone mentioned it is like Monet’s arrival of Impressionism in the world of painting. People might look at it first strangely until they understand the true meaning of the images. Every picture has so much to tell. The longer you look at some, the more you will see. Within a few months I moved from decorating my own walls to the Bermuda Society of Art, to an online presentation at www.thebermudian.com and a solo exhibit at the prestigious Masterworks Gallery on January 14th, 2011 which turned out to be one of the most successful photographic exhibit ever at that time. Such interest and success in such a short period of time has definitely exceeded my expectations. Like one individual who owns a printing business said to me: “I do this every day. I print hundreds or thousands of pictures over the course of time. Beautiful as most of them are, seen under the umbrella they are all the same. A flower is a flower, a face is a face, a building is a building. The world of photography is ready for something new, interesting and unusual” and this might be it! SRP In short SRP is a single shot photography, no overlay of pictures, no double exposure. No equipment is added to my camera. I can do this with any camera and any lens. No editing in any computer program such as Adobe Photoshop or similar. I only adjust the usual things such as color, definition, brightness or similar to enhance the picture quality.
